Privacy Policy

Your Privacy Matters

YarnGrid is designed with privacy in mind. Core image processing and local project storage happen on your device. If you choose to publish a pattern to the community, the app sends the pattern data and any selected image or cover needed for that feature.

Data We Collect

In the YarnGrid mobile app, we collect limited analytics data to understand app usage and improve YarnGrid. Website analytics for yarngrid.com are described in the next section.

  • Usage analytics: feature usage events (for example: image picked, pattern generated, export completed/failed, settings changed).
  • Technical metadata: app version, OS/device details, and lifecycle information needed for analytics and diagnostics.
  • Interaction metadata: screen and touch interaction events for product analytics.
  • Advertising and ad measurement: When ads are shown, Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) may collect and share your IP address, ad interactions, diagnostics, and device, advertising, or account identifiers. This information may be used for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention, subject to your device settings and applicable consent choices.
  • Consent choices: Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) may process your advertising consent choices and provide regional consent messages and privacy controls where required.

We use PostHog as our analytics provider and Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) to serve and measure ads. Ad requests wait until UMP reports that they are allowed. When personalized advertising is unavailable, ads may be contextual or non-personalized, depending on consent, device settings, and Google's ad-serving behavior. YarnGrid does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission or show an IDFA authorization prompt on iOS.

Website Analytics (yarngrid.com)

This website uses PostHog for privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics. The site does not store cookies or use local or session storage for analytics, so no cookie consent banner is shown.

  • Page views: the pages you visit, the referring website, and any campaign parameters in the link you followed.
  • Interaction events: clicks on page elements, including App Store and Google Play download buttons.
  • Technical metadata: browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and approximate location (country/region) derived from your IP address.
  • Visitor counting: to count unique visitors without cookies, PostHog derives a rotating, privacy-preserving hash on its servers from your IP address, browser user agent, and the site domain. Your IP address is not stored with website analytics events, and the hash changes daily, so visitors are not tracked across days or across other websites.

Website analytics are kept in a separate PostHog project from the app, are not linked to any app user or account, and are not used to build a persistent profile of you. The website shows no ads and does not load the Google Mobile Ads SDK. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, the site stops sending analytics events. Tracking protection or ad blockers may also block these requests entirely, in which case no data is sent.

Data We Do Not Collect

  • Payment data (YarnGrid currently does not process payments).
  • Website cookies or browser storage for analytics, and any cross-site tracking of website visitors.

Why We Collect Data

  • Measure feature usage and improve product quality.
  • Understand which pages and links on yarngrid.com are useful to visitors.
  • Identify and troubleshoot failures (for example, export issues).
  • Understand app performance and stability over time.
  • Provide optional account and community features, including publishing, importing, likes, and moderation.

Data Sharing

We share app and website analytics data with our service provider (PostHog) to process analytics on our behalf. When ads are shown, the data described above may be collected and shared by Google through the Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. When you use account or community features, PocketBase processes account and profile information, published or imported pattern data, selected images or covers, and actions such as likes, reports, blocks, and EULA acceptance to provide those features. We do not sell your personal data.

Retention

  • Local projects: Stored on your device until you delete them, clear app data, or uninstall YarnGrid.
  • PocketBase account and community data: Account, profile, published or imported pattern records and files, likes, reports, blocks, and EULA acceptance are kept while needed to provide features, moderate the community, protect the service, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. Account deletion from Settings starts removal of account-owned records; backups or records retained for security or legal reasons may take longer to expire.
  • PostHog analytics (app and website): Retained only for as long as needed for analytics, diagnostics, and service security. PostHog's provider retention and deletion practices apply; see PostHog's privacy policy.
  • AdMob and UMP data: Google's retention practices apply to data processed by Mobile Ads and UMP according to applicable settings and consent choices; YarnGrid does not set a separate retention period for provider-held data. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Security logs and legal records: Kept for as long as reasonably necessary to protect the service, investigate abuse, resolve disputes, or comply with legal and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymized where practical.
  • Deletion requests: We process requests within a reasonable period. Provider-held data and backups may remain according to the provider's retention schedule or applicable legal obligations.

Permissions

  • Camera: Used only to take photos for pattern conversion. Photos are processed locally.
  • Photo Library: Used to select images for conversion. Exported PDFs and text files are shared through your device's share sheet; YarnGrid does not save exports directly to your Photos library.

Your Choices

You can manage applicable advertising consent and privacy choices from Settings. If you use an account, you can start account deletion from Settings. If you have privacy requests (access, correction, or deletion), contact us at the address below.
